Ian Atkinson

Ian served for more than 32 years in the Royal Navy, 25 of those on HM Submarines, Sovereign, Spartan, Talent, Triumph, Trafalgar and Turbulent and retired from the RN in April 2011 as a Chief Stoker.

Ian became involved with We Remember Submariners in 2013, first of all as a Facebook supporter and then following a request for volunteers, joined as website support before authoring the Newsletter for many years.

Ian then assumed the role of PR Coordinator before briefly assuming the role as Vice Chairman and then became Chairman, a position he held for more than 3 years, during which he oversaw the ARA San Juan and KRI Nanggala submarine tragedies and the start of membership of the charity.

Ian took a year away from the charity, due to personal circumstances before returning into the role of Secretary and some months later assuming his current role in the Senior Leadership Team as Operations Manager, managing the day-to-day running of the charity whilst the Chairman and trustees concern themselves with policy and governance as WRS continues to grow and support the submarine community.
