HMS E36 was an E-class submarine of the Royal Navy, built by John Brown & Company at Clydebank. She was laid down on 7 January 1915, launched on 16 September 1916, and commissioned on 16 November 1916.

Service
HMS E36 served with the 8th Submarine Flotilla based at Harwich during the First World War under the command of Lieutenant Thomas Bollen Seath McGregor-Robertson.
Loss
On 19 January 1917, while operating in the North Sea off Harwich, E36 was lost in a collision with fellow submarine HMS E43. According to later investigations, E43 slowed to avoid a floating mine and subsequently struck a darkened submarine believed to be E36. The collision was catastrophic and all 31 crew members were lost.
Notable Fact
Among those lost was Clement Charles Frederick Browne, aged 16 years and 9 months, recorded as the youngest Royal Navy submariner to die on active service.
